On the 23rd of September from 14:30 – 16:30 the RSNN will host a session on the FIGON Dutch Medicines Days (www.figondmd.nl) entitled “Innovative monitoring technology in clinical trials: feasible approaches, valuable evidence”. The session will be chaired by Peter van Meer (CBG) and Joop van Gerven (CCMO).

On May 21st, 2019, the RSNN organized an ‘Expert Meeting’ on the topic of pharmaceutical compounding. As in many countries, there is a lively debate in the Netherlands on the complementary role of pharmaceutical compounding in the space of personalized medicine, drug shortages or coping with high priced medicines.

Recently, the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology published a paper by members of the RSNN on the future of the drug label. The paper is based on the 3rd RSNN Workshop ‘What’s in, What’s out, What’s relevant? – Towards a sensible label’ which was held in June 2018.

Abstract submission for the FIGON Dutch Medicines Days is still open (deadline 1 August 2019). We encourage early career researchers to send in regulatory science abstracts for this meeting. Best abstracts will be selected for a poster or a short oral presentation in one the parallel sessions.

2018 has been a year of expansion and consolidation for the RSNN. The number of RSNN members and partner organization has grown, as well as the number of participants in RSNN events. Furthermore, the RSNN has professionalized its communications by launching a new website and setting up an electronic newsletter.

The RSNN is very excited about the draft strategy and foresees significant contributions to innovating and improving regulatory science.

On 17 April 2019 the Regulatory Science Network Netherlands (RSNN) organized its fourth annual workshop. This edition focussed on “The future of clinical trials and evidence generation, and their use in regulatory decision making”.

Last month, professor Bert Leufkens published an editorial in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology.

It’s good to welcome Marjon Pasmooij as the latest member of the RSNN Steering Committee. We asked her to discuss how she sees the role of RSNN, and what challenges come next for regulatory science.

The MEB, the Dutch medicines authority, publishes the seventh edition of its Regulatory Science Magazine today. This edition focuses on the MEB science day and advanced therapies (ATMPs). There is also a piece about the vision document recently published by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) on the future for regulatory science up to 2025.

In 2018, RSNN further expanded its network and activities. 2019 promises to be an exciting year in which RSNN activities will expand further, with an increased focus on international connections and delivering results. RSNN is expecting to attract new members who want to contribute to its mission to advance the regulatory system.

With the sixth edition of the RSNN newsletter, a new look is introduced. In this edition, we report on the RSNN sessions during the FIGON Dutch Medicines Days and Christine Gispen-de Wied shares her thoughts on what regulatory science has achieved to date, and what lies ahead.
